meet lynsey

Hey Y'all !

I’m Lynsey Pippen, child of God, wife to Michael, and mom to Luke and Nolan. Welcome to Happiness and Humility, where I think out loud on the topics of adoption, autism, and God’s amazing grace!  You’ll notice that the logo to the blog is the trinity symbol, as this is my own version of how these 3 topics have intertwined throughout my life story.

My Professional Journey

At the start of motherhood, I resigned from my job as a Certified Speech-Language Pathologist in the public school system in order to become official house manager, complete my Doctorate in Special Education and start a part-time position as a teletherapist. I enjoyed a stint as an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Communication Disorders at my alma mater, Louisiana Tech University (Go Dawgs!), before our family moved to Central Florida.

As an extrovert, I enjoy building relationships with everyone I meet both personally and professionally. The most enjoyable part of my career is the interactions with colleagues, students, and families. I believe that the cornerstone to a child’s lifelong success is strong connection and communication between their supports (aka the village.)  Along with my love for all things planning and organizing, I use my professional education and personal experiences to help caregivers of individuals with special needs navigate the education process and build positive rapport among educators and therapists for the benefit of all.

My Family Journey

After five years of marriage, Michael and I welcoming toddler biological brothers into our forever family. The journey through International adoption, Bulgaria to be exact, was only the beginning of our family adventures. From the beginning of the process, we understood that our children would have special needs and, with a whole lot of prayer, we were up for the parenting challenge. Interestingly, Autism has been an unexpected blessing to our family. We have grown as individuals and a family through the tribulations that somehow always lead to progress. As a mother of children with special needs, I’ve learned to always write in pencil because trial and error is inevitable and one should always be prepared for change.

Through the years we’ve learned to pause all the acronyms in our lives (You know the ones….ASD, ADHD, ST, OT, PT, ABA, ESE….) in order to add more enjoyment to our days together.  Michael and I focus on being a team, with God as our Captain, turning negative into proactive positives and creating family fun focused on everyone’s strengths.

I seek to help other families overcome the challenges that come with adoption and special needs. My hope for you is to find and create opportunities that highlight your strengths, leading to a more fulfilling life of adventure!
